Middle School students travel the world during summer

One aspect of going to an international school is that every summer students scatter all over the globe to travel, reconnect with friends or family, or to move to a new place.

The pie chart on the right shows the statistics for the different places students travel over the summer. Out of 218 responses, 66.1 percent of them go to North America while only five percent of the responses go to Asia.

Most of the responses explained that they go to these places mainly because of family, camp, or because that is the place they are from.

Hadley Murphy – grade five

Where do you spend your summers?
Every summer I go to Bakersfield in California.

Anywhere else?
Washington State and sometimes we go somewhere else for a nice vacation.

Why do you spend your summers in there?
We go to Bakersfield to see all of my family members and Washington State to see my grandparents.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Bakersfield?
In California, it’s really hot, so I go swimming every day with my friends.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Washington?
I see my grandparents and they have a really big house and a garden.

What’s your favorite memory from the summer?
Seeing my old friends and family makes me happy.

Piper Bradford – grade six

Where do you spend your summers?
I spend my summers in Nantucket off of Cape Cod.

Anywhere else?
Sometimes I go back to Atlanta.

Why do you spend your summers in Nantucket?
My mom’s best friend lives there so we decided to buy a house there.

Why do you sometimes go to Atlanta during the summer?
I go back to Atlanta to see friends.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Nantucket?
We go to the beach almost every day, and also, I have a pool at my house.

What’s your favorite memory from the summer?
For 4th of July one year, the whole island had a big water fight, and that was really fun.

Yash Vengayil – grade seven

Where do you spend your summers?
I spend my summers in India.

Anywhere else?
Not really, no.

Why do you spend your summers in India?
Because I have family there and my grandparents are there.

What’s your favorite thing to do in India?
I just like to spend time with grandparents and sometimes I like to play cricket.

What’s your favorite memory from the summer?
Once my cousin and I went to the beach, and it was really fun.

Olivia Benjamin-MacDonald – grade eight

Where do you mainly spend your summers?
I spend my summers in New York.

Anywhere else?
I sometimes go to the Caribbean with my Dad.

Why do you spend your summers in New York?
Because I have lots of family there and I like it there.

Why do you spend your summers in the Caribbean?
To see my grandparents.

What’s your favorite thing to do in New York?
I like shopping and going to see art galleries.

What is your favorite thing to do in the Caribbean?
I like going to the beach every day.

What’s your favorite memory from the summer?
We went to every beach on the island when I was in the Caribbean.
