Chelsea, Arsenal tie as favorites among middle school students

Eighth-grader Antonio Reis supports Tottenham Hotspur.

What is the most followed Premier League team in middle school? This would be an interesting thing to figure out because the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world. A Scroll survey showed that out of the 89 people who responded, the most supported team is a tie between Arsenal and Chelsea with 17 votes each. Both of the teams are

in London. This suggests that many students support some of the more local teams.   One of the students who support a London-based team is Antonio Reis in eighth grade and he supports Tottenham Hotspur. “When I moved to London a few years ago, they were playing at Wembley and Wembley was the nearest stadium to my house. So we were kind of just looking for teams in northwest London and they seemed like the most likely pick.” Choosing a team based on how local it was to where they lived was true for a lot of other students.

Sixth-grader Quinn Hogan supports Liverpool.

However, this does not mean that every student supports a local team. One example is Quinn Hogan in sixth grade. He supports Liverpool which is not based in London. In fact, it is roughly a four-hour car ride from London. Unlike other students who chose their team based on location, Hogan supports Liverpool because of his father. “Well, my dad works for the club so it is not like I can support anyone else.” It actually turns out that Liverpool is a close second to Arsenal and Chelsea with 14 votes. This is interesting because it makes you think about the question of why are there so many Liverpool fans in London because surely not all of their parents work for Liverpool.

The Premier League is where professional soccer/football is played in England and Wales The premier league works that the bottom three teams are relegated each season and they go to the EFL Championship. Then, the top three teams in the EFL Championship are promoted to the Premier League. So, in total every year the Premier League has 20 teams in it
