Although ASL has a strong arts program, ten eighth grade students who wanted to pursue their passion for drama more had the opportunity to go to Luxembourg, from March 28 to April 2. The trip was centered on a drama festival taking place at the International School in Luxembourg

Students spent two days exploring the city and then traveled to the school to start the festival. The over arching theme of the event was “Finding Yourself.” Students did workshops centered on how to act out emotions and express themselves. They also did numerous workshops on Shakespeare.

Eighth grader Rose Foy said that she “enjoyed learning more about acting and drama as well as meeting new people.” Another eighth grade student Kleidi Likola also stated that she improved as an actor.

Although the students enjoyed the trip, some students believed that changes could be made. Likola said that she thought that “Some of the activities could’ve been more drama related and less focused on the theme and more on individual work that could benefit us individually. Also, the festival should’ve been more than three days.” Foy said that her favorite part “…was being in an environment where all the people around you are as interested in drama as you are… This trip taught all of us more about specific parts of drama that we didn’t before have a chance to learn about.”

The participants really enjoyed this fantastic trip where they stepped out of their comfort zones and saw developments in their abilities. They were brave and took on challenges that they maybe would have. On the second night of the festival there was a talent show where student could show off their talents. Most people that went on the trip were very keen on entering and did a great job.
