The collegial atmosphere at ASL, the wonderful students, the HS Music Tour in March, and HS Alternatives to Bergen, Norway in September.

Two years

It was very enjoyable living and working in London.  I’ve especially loved having access to public libraries and going on adventures in the big open spaces with my husband and our favorite canine companion.

How has your teaching changed as you have worked here?
I’m thinking more deeply about re-imagining/re-imaging school; that is, I’m more interested in alternative ways of educating young (and older) people.

How long have you been here?
This is my third year teaching at ASL.

Where are you going next?
We are moving back to Bremerton, Washington, which is where we came from before we were here.

What would you say are some of your favorite memories that you will take away with you?
I have liked all of the trips that we have gone on. Outward Bound was fantastic. I love that time to gel with my advisory group. I really enjoy Normandy because I think it’s such a great opportunity for students to learn about [World War II] and really to apply it to lots of different curriculum areas. I also love the idea of an open classroom. We come to the building every day, or most days, but really our classrooms can be open – like Explore London. I think that’s a fabulous idea for students to get to see and learn in a very non-traditional setting. I think those pieces will really stick with me when I go back.
