Ms. Yolanda German, middle school Spanish teacher, has been a valuable member of the ASL community for 24 years. She will leave ASL at the end of the school year. She has taught every single grade in middle school. Besides teaching, Ms. German set up a high school service learning program in Oaxaca, Mexico.  Ms. German also has worked hard trying to improve the Spanish world language trip to Valencia every year and make it as interesting as possible for students.

Ms. German is appreciated every day by the ASL community. “Ms. German has always been a great teacher, and has always been kind,” said eighth grader Harry Pfeiffer. “She is very motivational and has really helped me with Spanish this year. I am very sad that she is leaving next year.”

Many students appreciate how Ms. German brings energy and laughter to every class. “Her style of teaching, and how she does it is great,” said seventh grader Jason Covey. “She does it in a fun way that’s entertaining, and it’s been a pleasure to be one of her students for so long.”

Other students also share this view. “She always makes the class funny, and it’s always great because she lifts up our spirits and makes Spanish really fun,” said seventh grader Cameron Spurr.

After Ms. German leaves ASL, she has many different things that she wants to be doing.  She will still stay in contact with the school by subbing and tutoring after she leaves. In her spare time, Ms. Geman said, “I am going to be travelling, I am going to be painting, and I am going to be [a language examiner].”

Ms. German looks forward to seeing old students, and also travelling to Spain and South America after she leaves ASL. She will be able to practice her language skills in these foreign countries.  “Language never stops,” said Ms. German. “It’s a life long learning experience.”
